TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

Google Analytics is making the BIG SWITCHEROO to ONLY GA4 on July 1, 2023.

Currently, Google is running two versions of Analytics: Universal (which most of us started out with) and GA4 (which Google introduced October 2020).  If you are using the original Universal Analytics, you will want to make the transition to GA4 BEFORE July 1, 2023.

After July 1, Google will no longer support Universal Analytics, and all data collected under Google's previous Analytic program (UA) will be lost forever.

YIKES! WHAT DO YOU DO???

Google wants to help you save your Analytic Data.  Go to your Google Analytics page and click on the HELP icon (question mark) in the upper right-hand corner.  The Help menu will pop up, and the first item listed will be "Make the switch to Google Analytics 4."

Once you click the HELP link, you will see a pop-up with a YouTube video link.  This video is created by a Google Expert, so you can be sure you are getting the help you need (and nothing more).  The YouTube cannot be switched to full screen from the pop-up, so I suggest you click share to get the URL, and paste the URL in your browser to watch the full-size version.  Trust me, it will make it much easier to follow the steps.

WHAT VERSION ARE YOU USING? HOW DO YOU KNOW???

If you created a Google Analytics account before October 2020, and you do not remember going through the steps to migrate to GA4, you LIKELY are operating with a Universal Analytics account.  Here's a quick check...

Open your Analytics account and click on the Admin Settings cog in the lower left-hand corner.  Under "+Create Property," if the top line says "GA4 Setup Assistant," you have not yet migrated, and you need to refer to the video in the HELP link (mentioned above).

If the top line says "Setup Assistant," you have likely already migrated.

But if you want to be ABSOLUTELY positive, it is best to check the source code on your homepage.

Need some help with that?  I'm conducting an Open Coach call at 10 am CST next Tuesday morning (6/13) this week, where I'll demonstrate the steps to check your source code to determine if you are using Universal Analytics or GA4.

This Open Coach session is free to you, simply register using the Zoom registration link below.

WHAT'S BETTER ABOUT GA4 ANALYTICS?

Google Analytics GA4 includes many improvements over Universal Analytics:

  1. The interface is more customizable, making it easier to establish a time range for your reports.

  2. More custom reporting features gives you more control over the data you want to report and analyze.

  3. You can get more detail on the kind of traffic to your website.

  4. Real-time reporting lets you see what customers are doing on your website.

  5. Automatic tracking will automatically track a number of actions people take on your website.

  6. Data reporting is much more effective because you are in control of what gets collected and reported.

If you haven't actively used Google Analytics in the past, NOW is a very good time to start.  GA4 takes away many of the data management frustrations woven in to Universal Analytics.
