ALL STRATEGIES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL...

When it comes to social media, email and web marketing, all strategies are not created equal.  There are, literally, hundreds of strategies.  Where do you start??  Well, start with these seven!  Six are tried and true.  One is up and coming, and if you don't get on the train, it's going to leave the station without you.

7 DIGITAL MARKETING MUST-DO'S

Did I say 7?  Yes, there are SEVEN on my list, but I won't have room to fully describe all seven in this blog, so I'm going to pull a bait and switch strategy here.  I've baited the hook with seven, and I'm switching you up to the first THREE.  Pick any one of these three and give it a try this week.  I GUARANTEE that you will boost your digital marketing results.

1. Storytelling

Let me tell you a story...  When you lead with those words, your listener's brain tunes in.  Stories bypass a brain's logic, and targets emotion.  Stories are easy to remember.  So how do you turn a story into a marketing strategy?  Simple.  Make sure your story has THREE components.

  • the PROBLEM.  Lead with the problem that the main character (you or a customer) has experienced.  Think of a problem that your audience will also understand.

  • the JOURNEY. Tell about the experiences, successes, and setbacks the main character had along the way (make it funny, make it sad -- pick an emotion, any emotion).

  • the SOLUTION or OUTCOME.  How did the problem get better?  (This is where you sell something).  Hint, if the problem didn't get better, you need to pick another story.

2. Tick, Click, & Stick

Customers want to be understood, and when you understand what makes them tick, they will click, and hopefully stick around for more clicks in the future.

Understanding your digital customer is no different than understanding your brick & mortar customers.  You need to understand their hopes, dreams, wants, and desires.  You must also understand their fears, pains, and problems (check out Strategy #1, above).  When you know what makes your customers TICK, you will be able to apply strategies that will make them CLICK.  And when you continue to demonstrate how well you know and understand them, your follow-up strategies will encourage them to STICK around and become loyal return customers.

So get to work -- develop posts, surveys, questions that will help you understand what makes your customers TICK.

3. Psycho Hot Buttons

Oops.  I meant to say PSYCHOLOGICAL Hot Buttons.  I can't say why these work.  But they do.  Every time.

  • SOCIAL PROOF.  Reviews, testimonials, and endorsements.

  • SCARCITY. Limited availability, time-sensitive, exclusive offer, sale ends soon.

  • RECIPROCITY.  (give them something and they'll buy in return) Free downloads, samples, bonuses, and lead magnets.

  • CONSISTENCY. Brand image, brand messaging, consistent customer experience (all encourage repeat business)

  • ANCHORING.  This one takes a little more 'splaining.  The first information your customer encounters becomes the reference point.  So lead with the higher, regular price, then close with the reduced sale price.  Their brain will automatically draw to the DEAL.

MAKE IT WORK...

These strategies WORK -- but you have to make it work for you.  Just pick one and get started!

There are 3 more strategies coming your way next week.  But I'd love to hear your success stories from the strategies you implement this week.  Drop a comment in our Stitchin' Tree Social Media Facebook Group (see below).  Share your experiences with others.
