Keep Your Money!

Don't let Facebook trick you into spending your hard-earned cash to pay for boosting a post or buying FB ads.

If you've sat in any of my Quilt Market sessions, you've heard me say, "NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER boost a post."

Facebook's algorithm centers around your individual post Distribution Score, a measure of impressions, reach, reactions, comments, and shares.  Video distributions scores also include retention and 1-minute views.  Your Distribution Scores used to be reported in numbers.  How each post compared to your post average.

It's quite possible that Meta has determined that they were providing us with too much information.  With this level of analytics, businesses can implement strategies to increase organic growth without boosting or advertising.

Here's the new Distribution data (can't even call it a score).

By clicking Meta Insights, Content, then clicking a post, you can see how your post is performing in comparison to your average posts (up to 22 days).  You can see if your post is "typical," "higher than typical," or "lower than typical."

But don't let those general descriptions fool you.  Facebook's algorithm is still measuring the EXACT SAME distribution data and determining your organic reach by this measure.

So What Can You Do About Your Distribution Score?

Check your data. Pick a post and read the chart. Is your post trending above or below your average post? If your posts are trending below average, do NOT boost or advertise.  Figure out what you need to do to change the trend.  If your posts are trending above average, figure out what you are doing right and do it more.

Over time, you want more posts performing "typical" or "higher than typical" than "lower than typical."

Keep in mind, however, the better your posts perform, the higher the bar...

 Consider Organic Growth Tactics...

These tactics are tried and true.  They have stood the test of time, and have consistently demonstrated the ability to boost your Distribution Score and increase your organic growth.

  1. Align Content with Your Business Brand Ideal (higher purpose for being)

  2. Use Video

  3. Host Facebook Lives

  4. Leverage Facebook Messenger

  5. Encourage User-Generated Content

  6. Use Hashtags

  7. Run Regular Give-aways

  8. Run Flash Sales

  9. Promote Quizzes and Polls

  10. Post Regular Stories

  11. Start a Facebook Group

  12. Repurpose Existing Content

  13. ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE

If I had to pick one out of this list, I'd go with ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE.  It is the tactic that will most quickly impact your Reaction and Comments categories.

Each of these tactics can be further defined and developed to assist you with organic growth.  Hop in my Facebook Success Group if you are ready to take your Facebook marketing to the next level!
