YOU Can Extend Your Facebook Reach! |
Absolutely, positively, without a doubt! You can put the Facebook Algorithm to work for you! I preach and preach on this topic in my social media coaching sessions, so it bears repeating in this e-blog.
The NUMBER ONE way to increase your FB reach is to ENGAGE - ENGAGE - ENGAGE with your followers.
That means you NEED to react and respond to EVERY comment and EVERY message. Reacting and responding keeps your posts circulating in the newsfeeds of your followers AND in the newsfeeds of their friends.

Which One Are YOU?? |
Don't expect Facebook to promote your business for you. Take a look at the two sets of Insights for the last 28 days below. Which one is more like you? (BTW, you can grab this information from your INSIGHTS page)
Quilt Shop A Reach = 3.12 Engagement = 1.02 |
Quilt Shop B Reach = 6.36 Engagement = 9.89
The Facebook account in the top example will have a very difficult time achieving organic (not paid) growth.
The Facebook account in the bottom example is growing by leaps and bounds.
Which one is more like you? Which one do you want to be? |
React & Respond |
Your reactions and responses say a LOT about you as a business owner. Your LACK of reactions and responses say even MORE.
Quilt Shop A -- Reacted to 100% -- Responded to 14% |
Quilt Shop B -- Reacted to 100% -- Responded to 100%
The Facebook Algorithm is working AGAINST the shop in the top example. It is working FOR the shop in the bottom example. Which one is more like you? Which one do you want to be? |

Responding Every Time Seems WEIRD... |
Saying "Thank You" twenty times in a row may seem a little weird. And it looks a little unoriginal when you see all the repeated comments. But let's put it another way that may make more sense. If 75 quilters came into your shop at 75 different times. And ALL 75 paid you some type of comment. Would you reply to each of them??? Of course you would. And you SHOULD do the same on social media.
If you want quilters to engage with your posts, you need to engage with them. It takes time -- but it's worth it. In the example below, over 135 people took the time to comment (even more reacted). Each commenter deserves a response. |
If you are concerned about repeating yourself, don't worry. The quilters who took the time to comment will receive a response notification that will tell them you have mentioned them in your comments.
When they click on their notification, It will return them to the portion of the post that includes their original comment and your response. They will not see the sum total of all of the comments unless they choose to return to the post on your business page and select "see all comments." Facebook likes to truncate the post on your page so that viewers see more posts and less comments (see below). The post, below, has 152 comments, but Facebook shows only 1 comment on the newsfeed. |

Who Has Time for All of This????? |
Finding time to react and respond to every comment is never easy. It seems as business owners, we have many more pressing issues that require our attention. We have to prioritize, right???
But ignoring the comments has detrimental effects for our business as well. Facebook's algorithm restricts the reach of businesses who do not demonstrate consistent responsiveness to follower comments.
So, if you don't have time to respond, find someone else to help you out. Use a staff member, find a college intern, hire an assistant, or contract with a social media service provider. The key is finding someone (or multiple someones) who will monitor your Facebook account around the clock and provide responses in a timely manner. |

How About a Virtual Assistant??? |
Social media support is a fast-growing industry. You can use agencies to help you locate an individual to assist you. ZipRecruiter, Indeed, LinkedIn, Upwork, and Fivver are sources you could use to recruit an assistant.
Virtual Assistants who specialize in social media response and monitoring might be the most economical way to go, if you do not require a full-time assistant.
I have been very fortunate. I discovered a VA several years ago that is professional, committed, and reliable. My VA, Renae, is located in the Philippines, and now she manages a team of professionals that provide support to my accounts and several other accounts that I help manage. The time difference actually works to my benefit. Many quilters check their social media accounts in the evening, after work, which is daytime in the Philippines, when the full team is at work and ready to respond. When I schedule my posts in advance, Renae is often able to respond within minutes after receiving a comment. And the price is right -- $10/day. I would find it very difficult to top the quality of service and the price with a domestic agency or contracted assistant.
If you have been considering outsourcing your social media responses to a third-party or virtual assistant, I would be happy to discuss how Renae and the team at Stitchin' Tree Social could help you. Sign up for a FREE 1-week trial service!
