It's Tipsy Tuesday!

WOULD YOU IGNORE A CUSTOMER???

If a quilter walked into your shop, noticed a quilt hanging on the wall, and commented, "Wow, that's beautiful."  Would you ignore the comment and pretend the quilter wasn't there?

Of course not!  You would respond appropriately and, possibly, sieze the opportunity to sell a pattern or fabric line.

Yet, on social media, potential customers make similar statements, and we ignore them.  We don't respond or reply.  We don't take the opportunity to convert the comment into a sale.

And Facebook (Meta) assumes we don't care about our customer.

RESPONSES IMPROVE REACH

When you create a post, Meta shows it to a fraction of your followers.  If the post receives reactions or comments, Meta shows it to more followers.  The first few hours after posting can greatly impact the organic reach of your post.

YOU have the power to increase that reach.  When you react (like, love) the comment, Meta pushes the post out even more.  And when you respond to the comment, Meta sees you as an active business who cares about the customers.  The post now has "legs."  The person who comment on your post receives a notification that you have replied to your post.  Friends of that follower (with similar interests) are now more likely to see your post in their news feed.  LEGS!

Your response tells your follower that you noticed the comment, appreciated their support, and value them as a customer.  You are in much better position to convert the follower to a sale.

New quilters to your page see you as a responsive business owner.  Isn't that what you want them to think?

LONGER RUN

Have you ever noticed that, while most of the posts in your newsfeed are current, some of the posts in your newsfeed are days, even weeks old?  How did they score a longer run???

These older posts appear in your newsfeed because they received a more recent reaction and comment.  Add a response to the comment, and the post continues to have legs.

This simple strategy can boost your posting power WITHOUT paid advertising or post boosts!

CONSIDER THE ALTERNATIVE

Let's say you think it is wierd to say "thanks," "thank you," "that's nice," etc. over and over again.  And you don't want to reply to some and not others, so you just don't reply.  So what??

Based on the initial reactions and comments, Meta shows the posts in more newsfeeds.  Some may react and respond, but eventually the reactions dwindle and the post no longer appears in newsfeeds.  Your reach ratio is cut significantly because it has no LEGS.

DOES THIS REALLY WORK???

Numbers tell the story.  Consider these Facebook accounts.

By reacting and responding to all comments, this one-year-old account, above, has experienced a reach of 622% and an engagement of 408%.

By reacting and responding to all comments, this two-year-old account, above, has experienced a reach of 760% and an engagement of 818%.

By ignoring all comments, the account, above, has experienced a reach of 0.75% and an engagement of 0.10%.  That's probably why this four-year-old account only has 562 followers.

DON'T HAVE TIME TO REPLY TO ALL OF THE COMMENTS?

If you don't have time to react and reply to all comments, find someone who can!  If you don't have a staff member that you can assign the task to, try a virtual assistant.

I've been using a VA for about six years now.  She replies to all general comments and messages me directly when it is necessary for me to respond.

My VA has access to my social media posting calendar, where I include post-specific, anticipated FAQ responses for the VA to use with the posts.
