One of the amazing things about doing social media marketing for over a decade now is being able to look back and review everything that's happened over the past ten years.
It's definitely been an uphill learning curve and a WILD ride.
From new social media platforms bursting onto the scene (i.e. TikTok)
...to "older" platforms that couldn't keep up and died out along the way (i.e. Vine).
To other platforms adding features, removing features, and struggling to keep up (i.e. Instagram).
And to add even more chaos to the mix, we've experienced a whole host of new technologies that everyone claimed was going to be "the future of marketing."
Things like like virtual and artificial reality (AR and VR), voice powered marketing (i.e. Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant), and blockchain powered social media.
...but none of this has really happened yet.At least not at scale where it would make sense to incorporate into your marketing mix.
So I sympathize with quilt retailers who have a hard time trying to figure out what is even going on, much less trying to plot out a practical, actionable, and PROFITABLE social media strategy for the future.
Which leads me to my main point here.
If you want to know what the future of marketing is going to be like, the most accurate way is simply to look at what it's like right now, and then add "a little bit more."
-
Video marketing is now. The future? A little bit more video.
-
Content length variations (i.e. having a mix of shorter and longer form content) and the way the algorithm handles and distributes them is now. The future? A little bit more short form, medium form, and long form content.
-
And proven marketing principles like actually trying to help, and serve, and understand your market is now. The future? A little bit more caring and sharing.
