The Dormant Dilemma

Inactivity. The silent social media killer.

It's a breeze to set up profiles across a myriad of social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and more. However, the true challenge lies in keeping the momentum alive.

When your profiles or accounts go dormant, the repercussions extend beyond merely losing followers. Your credibility takes a hit, and your reputation may suffer. Most significantly, dormant profiles can erode your reach, causing your brand to lose its market share. In this blog, I will guide you through the steps to resuscitate your brand's social media presence.

Prune the Dead Weight

If you've assessed that certain social media accounts no longer serve your business goals, it's time to cut the dead weight. Deactivate or close dormant or inactive accounts. Take stock of the accounts you can and will maintain. Identify which platforms are most active within the quilting community and focus your attention there.

Crucially, communicate with your followers about your decision to phase out a particular platform. Provide a clear link to the channel where you'd like them to migrate.

With that being said, I will be doing a little pruning of my own.  I have assessed the activity on my Stitchin' Tree Social group and find very few group-member initiated posts.  The group functions more like a page, so I have created a Stitchin' Tree Wholesale Facebook page, that I would like all members to migrate to.  If you are a member of Stitchin' Tree Social group, please begin following Stitchin' Tree Wholesale.

Up Your Game

Once you've identified the channels that yield the best return on effort, it's time to inject fresh energy and strategy.  Commit to a consistent posting schedule:

  • Facebook: Post daily, up to 5 times per day; add 1 story daily to boost reach.
  • Instagram: Daily feed posts; add 2 stories per day for increased visibility.
  • YouTube: Post 4-6 times per week.
  • Pinterest: Publish pins 1-4 times daily, 4-10 times for growth.
  • Twitter: Daily tweets.
  • LinkedIn: Post 4-6 times per week.
  • TikTok: Post 4-6 times per week.

Let's Get Real (not REEL)

As a busy business owner, dedicating entire days to social media upkeep is impractical. It's far more effective to focus on 1-2 accounts and maintain consistent engagement than to spread thin across 5 platforms.

Once you've pinpointed the platforms yielding the best results for your quilting business, establish clear goals for posting, responding, and monitoring. Then, put your plan into action.

The Last Word

Remember, social media marketing is all about the return on effort. Zero effort begets zero results. By resuscitating your social media presence, you not only retain followers but also fortify your brand in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
