Marian D, SewTangle in Whitestone VA, recently finished with Facebook Success Formula group and mentioned that it is difficult to constantly come up with interesting and unique content.  Well, let me help you.  When planning social media posts, consider (7) different types of posts and how you might create content each month for each type of post. It's not as intimidating as you might think.  Once you master writing each of these types of content, you might consider planning the (7) different types for each of (7) days of the week.  Very quickly, your posting calendar will fill, and you will find you have a limitless supply of post ideas.

Seven Types of Business Posts

From educating and inspiring to entertaining and promoting, a well-rounded social media strategy encompasses a variety of content types. In this blog post, I'll outline seven essential types of social media content that can elevate your business's online presence.

In the next (7) weeks, I'll dive in to each type of content, providing ideas, suggestions and tips for developing your content-writing skills.  Get ready for the social content olympics.  It will be an exciting race to the finish.

1.  Educational Content: Feed Minds, Build Authority

Educational content establishes your brand as an industry expert and provides value to your audience. Share tips, insights, and how-to guides relevant to your products or services.

Examples: A tech company could create video tutorials showcasing the latest software updates or write blog posts explaining complex industry concepts. A quilt shop could include video tutorials on different quilting techniques, step-by-step guides for beginners, or tips on selecting the right fabrics and tools.

2.  Inspirational Content: Ignite Emotions, Foster Connection

Inspire your audience by sharing motivational stories, quotes, or success stories related to your brand. Create content that resonates with your audience's aspirations and values.

Examples: A fitness brand could share transformation stories of customers who achieved their fitness goals using their products, accompanied by motivational quotes. A pattern designer could post a photo collage or carousel on Instagram showcasing the evolution of a quilt from concept to completion, along with a heartfelt caption about the inspiration behind it.

3.  Interactive Content: Foster Engagement & Participation

Encourage audience interaction through polls, quizzes, contests, and surveys. Interactive content not only boosts engagement but also provides valuable insights into your audience's preferences.

Example: A fashion brand could run a "Choose Your Style" poll on Instagram Stories, allowing followers to vote on the next fashion trend or product design. An online quilt site could host a monthly quilt-along on Facebook or Instagram, providing participants with a pattern and weekly instructions. Encourage them to share their progress using a dedicated hashtag.

4.  Connecting Content: Humanize Your Brand & Build Relationships

Share behind-the-scenes glimpses of your team, company culture, and day-to-day operations. Humanize your brand by showcasing the people behind the scenes.

Examples: A food brand might share photos of the team preparing a new recipe in the kitchen, giving followers a sense of the company's personality. Quilt shop owners might post behind-the-scenes content on Instagram Stories, showcasing the design process, fabric selection, and the teamwork involved in creating a quilt.

5.  Promotional Content: Drive Sales & Conversions

While it's crucial not to overdo it, promoting your products or services is a key component of social media strategy. Showcase new offerings, discounts, or limited-time promotions.

Examples: An e-commerce brand could create visually appealing carousel posts on Instagram showcasing a new product line with compelling captions. Online or Brick & Mortar quilt shops can create eye-catching graphics on Pinterest or Instagram to announce the launch of a new fabric line, including details on its features, availability, and any exclusive promotions.

6. Newsworthy Content: Stay Relevant, Share Industry Updates

Keep your audience informed about industry trends, news, and updates. Position your brand as a source of timely and relevant information.

Examples: A marketing agency might share a blog post discussing the latest trends in digital marketing or create short videos summarizing key industry news. A shop owner might write a blog post or create a series of Instagram posts highlighting the top quilting trends for the upcoming season, accompanied by visuals of quilts that embody these trends.

7. Entertaining Content: Capture Attention, Create Memorable Experiences

Entertaining content helps your brand stand out and captures the attention of your audience. Use humor, storytelling, or creative visuals to make your content shareable and memorable.

Examples: A travel agency could create entertaining videos of staff members trying out local cuisines or engaging in unique cultural experiences during their trips. A quilting teacher could share a funny blooper reel of outtakes from quilting tutorials, accompanied by a caption that shows his/her sense of humor and love for the craft.

The Last Word

Incorporating these diverse content types into your social media strategy can help you build a vibrant online community, showcase your expertise, and grow your presence within the quilting industry. By weaving these elements together, you'll create a digital quilt that reflects the artistry, passion, and creativity at the heart of your quilting business.
